Hi, Friend!

One of my favorite things when I canoed down the Mississippi River in 2017 was talking with people along the way. I got a snapshot of how locals relate to the River. I heard various perspectives, from "You are seeing the best part of our state" to "The River eats people." A lesson learned on that journey holds true: The River connects us all. And there is room for us all. I saw this again in Memphis this October at our Mississippi River Network's annual meeting (scroll down to read more). We heard as many different perspectives as there were people in the room. Ultimately, we all came away with a sense of belonging and knowing that we are stronger together.

As part of our River Citizen community, friend, we hope you feel a similar sense of belonging here. You may not agree with everything we share - and that's OK. Our goal is to offer opportunities to learn from one another and find common ground. That way, we become as mighty as our beloved Mississippi. Thank you for being here, together.

- Michael Anderson, Director of Outreach and Education, Mississippi River Network

P.S. For this month's email prompt, I'd love to hear what lessons you have learned from the River and its people. Send me an email at manderson@1mississippi.org!
